Dh is leaving tomorrow and will be gone for two weeks. 15 days and 14 nights to be exact.
As
a member of the Air National Guard, he works one weekend a month and once a year he has to travel out of state for a couple weeks. This year
it's to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While you might think Sin City ain't too terrible a place to spend two weeks, the truth is he'll be on a tarmac in the 100+ degree heat for 10-12 hours a day. Wearing a camouflage uniform that's 100% polyester and long-sleeved. Ick.
Plus, I'm pretty sure he's dreading being away from the kids more than anything else. It'll be the first time he's ever been gone overnight and I know he's going to miss them terribly. As for Bub and Fin, I'm thinking after a couple days when he's not there in the morning and doesn't come home around dinnertime, they'll start to figure out that something (or someone!) is missing.
Thankfully they'll have lots of company, and I'll have lots of help, from Oma, Pops, and Nana Debbie.
And seeing as it's Vegas, dh really wants me to come for a couple days. And while I really don't want to be away from my babies, and will MOST CERTAINLY start crying as soon as I get dropped off at the airport (if not sooner), Vegas is the perfect weekend get-away.
And more importantly, it'll be good for dh and I to have some time alone and to reconnect after a long (but momentous!) year.
So in a short 8 days, I'll be on a plane. And away from Bub and Fin for 2 1/2 whole days and 2 whole nights. Eeeek!
Although I'm sure this won't surprise you in the least, I was going to leave on Saturday and come home Tuesday morning. But just last week I changed my flight and am coming home Monday afternoon instead.
In the meantime, let's hope everyone stays healthy so I don't get any more anxious than I already am about leaving.
