2 days and 2 nights

Bub, dh, and I have now been here at DCH for two days and two nights.  Might not seem like a long time, but it feels like we've been here for weeks.

Trying to entertain a 13 month-old that is highly active and used to having the run of the entire house, is not an easy task.  Except for yesterday's trip downstairs to surgery, we've been holed up in a 20 x 15 foot hospital room with tile floor, some rickety old toys, and only a makeshift bed for Bub to climb on.  Although they did wheel in a Little Tikes for him to ride in.  And guess what it was?  A black police cruiser!   Complete with blue and red sirens and a walkie talkie.  We figured it had to be a sign of good things to come.

Another thing we've got going for us is a multitude of cords for him to play with.  If I haven't mentioned it before, cords are his absolute favorite "toy".  And don't worry, they're never plugged in, just in case you were thinking of calling DHS on us!  It's always a fun exercise at home to hide any cords he can see but can't play with, like the lamp, toaster, and vacuum cleaner.  Thankfully most of the cords here aren't plugged into anything he needs, so we can let him pull and play with them as much as he wants.

There is a big playroom right down the hall, but they're telling us to be really careful because of the H1N1 flu that's going around the hospital.  They've reassured us that anyone with H1N1 has been quarantined, but it's just not worth the risk.

We've now been prepped on how to put the tube in, as well as how to check to make sure it's placed correctly in his tummy.  We also know how to administer medicine and formula through the tube during the day, and a home care company will come to our house once we've been discharged to set up his room for tube feeding at night.

We were supposed to stay until Monday, but I used my charm and persuasion (ok, more like begged and pleaded) to get us discharged this afternoon.  You have to be firing on all cylinders and ready to put up your dukes (thankfully I was) trying to get all the paperwork completed and signatures from every available doctors, nurses, and specialist.  But if all goes well, we should be heading home by early afternoon.

Both dh and I really miss Fin and can't wait to give her a big hug.  It's hard being away from her no matter what, but even harder under these circumstances.  Although I've been told by Oma she's doing great, and has found a new best friend in Pops, hopefully she'll be as excited to see us and Bub as much as we're excited to see her.

I'll post again, and download some pics of the newly styled Bub, once we get home and settled.
