A short visit

We've been putting off a visit to Santa for weeks now.  Mostly because I've been anticipating tears as soon as they see the Big Guy.

You want me to sit where?

On THAT guy?

With the velour red pants?

I don't think so.

Also because every time we've been to the mall the line was so long and zig-zagged it made my head hurt just looking at it.  But seeing as today was our last chance (being Christmas Eve and all), we figured we better get to it.

We got there right at 8:00 when it opened.  There was a line, but it was manageable.

Fifteen minutes later when we hadn't moved and Bub was getting antsy, dh got out of line to see what the hold up was.  Fin was fairly content with her to-go breakfast of eggs and mini vanilla waffles, but she was just about done.

We heard two stories.  1.) That the cameraman was running late.  2.) That the cameraman was somewhere in the mall but his camera wasn't working.  We never did find out for sure which one (if either) were true.

Someone in line behind us, who was curiously getting much more information about what was going on, said if we didn't want to wait we could go sit with Santa and take a picture with our own camera.  Brilliant, I said to myself, and quickly got Fin out of the stroller, wheeled it off to the side, motioned for dh and Bub to jump the tinsel and garland barrier, and we were ready.  Or so I thought.

I guess in my mind I skipped over the part where we actually had to get them out of our arms and onto Santa's lap, and then have them sit there long enough to take a picture.

I'm thinking this will tell you better than any words how successful we were ....

We didn't even dare try to declaw Bub from dh's arms.  He was locked on and not going anywhere.

It was a short visit, but crying on Santa's lap is just one of those rites of passage you have to endure as a kid.  I'm sure Bub will get his chance next year.

As soon as we got back to the car, after doing the walk of shame to get the strollers, they were perfectly content and happy.
