We've never really used the security straps on the highchairs. Which is odd since we use them on everything else -- strollers, grocery carts, and car seats of course. Instead we just push the trays in as far as they'll go and that seems to work just fine. Plus the straps are cumbersome, not very well placed, and get so grimy you can't ever get them clean (and trust me, we've tried). Once the trays are in place there's also not a lot of room and where are they gonna go anyway?
It was news to me, but clearly there is room for maneuvering and as for where can they go?
They can go up!
They can go up!
My first reaction when I turned around and saw this was to gasp. And that I smirked. And than I laughed. I mean, look at that face. I dare you to resist at least a giggle when you see that.
She really thought she was the Queen Bee for figuring out this newest trick all on her own.

Although I've switched my M.O. and now use my Mommy-isn't-joking-around voice whenever I see her starting to wiggle herself upward, it doesn't seem to matter. She still does it. And then she puffs out her chest, as if I should be applauding her accomplishment instead of rambling on and on about how "highchairs are for sitting".
Sometimes I just have to smile, even though I know this encourages her to do it more. But she's just so stinkin' cute. Although I think she's starting to understand that when Mom's voice gets *that* loud, it means stop what you're doing immediately. So instead of standing all the way up, she gets about half way and then waits to see what I'm going to do. When she sees me glaring at her (even though what I'm really trying to do is not lol), she simply slides herself back down, takes a bite of whatever is on her tray, and pretends like nothing happened. Until the next time anyway.
