A professional soccer player in the making?

Bub's first day of Lil' K.ickers was yesterday.  He looked the part with his matching outfit and of course, his shin guards.

I wasn't sure what to expect once we got there, but at least the venue was familiar.  The Portland Indoor Soccer Center is where I used to play.  After college I wasn't quite ready to give up this game that I love so much, even after two major injuries (left knee ACL my junior year, and a broken nose that would end up requiring three consecutive reconstructive surgeries my senior year).

Not much has changed in the 7+ years since I stopped playing.  Still the same smell of must, sweat, and turf.  Everything else was pretty much the same too.  Part of me wanted fresh paint, new benches, an upgraded scoreboard, that newest of the new recycled turf.  But another part of me liked that it was familiar, that I could imagine a certain shot made from that corner or a move against two defenders from right there.  Feelings and memories I might not have remembered otherwise.

I can't help but wonder if Bub will inherit my love for the game.  Would I be lying if I said I didn't dream about him as a professional soccer player?  Yeah, probably.  Dh and Pops have a similar dream but it involves baseball.  They're already working on his throwing arm!  No matter what it is, we'll be there to cheer him on.

I apologize in advance for the not so great pictures.  I couldn't figure out why they were so dark and grainy, until I got home and realized my camera was on the "underwater" setting.  Geez.

Just checking things out.

Mom keeps telling me to "kick" it, but I'm
fine carrying it around like this.

Do you really expect a 17 month old NOT to be
distracted by a huge inflatable tube?
