We
saw Dr. P today for a mad case of diaper rash (Fin) and a weight check
(Bub). Seeing as we were already there, they went ahead and did
height, weight, and head measurements for both of them.
Bub STATS
Height: 32 in - 56%
Weight: 23 lbs, 5 oz - 22%
Head: ??? (but I do remember it was in the 19%, a little lower than I was expecting)
He's
lost an ounce since his last weight check 2 weeks ago. And while this
isn't ideal, I was afraid it was going to be more. Not only has he
been overly picky in his eating lately, but when he does take a bite of
something more often than not he spits it right back out. Although I
know kids go through phases like this (a friend of mine's 2 year old is
doing the same thing right now), it's that much harder with Bub not to
worry that it'll turn into something more serious. Unlike a lot of
other mom's, I don't have the confidence of knowing that if my child
has one bad feeding, the next feeding will most likely be a good one.
With Bub it's almost always a series of bad feedings. As a result,
I've had to be extra (some might say "overly") vigilant about Bub's food
intake and behavior during eating, but it's the only way I know to get
through this. For him, for us, every bite matters.
He's also been battling a stomach bug, the same one I have, so in case you wanted to come visit now's not a good time. I'm not sure if I gave it to him, or he gave it to me (guess it doesn't matter either way). Although I will admit he's recovering from it quicker and easier than I am. I haven't eaten much more than a piece of toast in two days, but unlike Bub, I can stand to lose a couple pounds.
I left a message for Dr. T yesterday just to let her know what's been going on. As much I as don't want to think about it, the possibility of a G tube is never far from my mind. I know he's not feeling well and that's made him want to eat even less than normal, but he's just not taking in enough calories (even before he got sick). I know in my heart this is something he'll outgrow, but in the meantime I want him to have every opportunity to develop a positive relationship with food, and to do it on his own terms. If that means we do the surgery and use the G tube as a supplement for those bad feedings, then absolutely that's what we'll do. More to come after I talk to Dr. T.

Fin STATS
Height: 33 in - 93%
Weight: 24 lbs, 7 oz - 62%
Head: ???
Fin's diaper rash, which has been like Dante's Inferno for over a week now, ended up being a yeast infection. Dr. P recommended a probiotic and a female yeast cream. Maybe once her girly parts start feeling better she'll stop waking up at 5:45 in the morning. Because that's just way too early for anyone to be getting up.
