Did the routine work?
Did they go to bed earlier?
Did they sleep in later?
Quite simply, the answers are ...
Not really
A little
and
Absolutely not with a capital N capital O and several of these !!!!!!

I'll
even take it one step farther and say that between the two of them, it
was the worst night of sleep we've had in over 6 months (maybe longer).
Not counting the plea for additional kisses, his first attempt was to ask for milk. He hasn't had milk before bed in months, so not sure where that came from.
His second attempt was for apple juice. Seeing as his (a-little-bit-lispy-a-lot-adorable) version of "apple juice" sounds a lot like "upstairs", I kept reassuring him that's where we already were. I'm not sure which of the two upset him most (not getting his juice, or me not understanding what he wanted in the first place) but the combination just about sent him over the edge.
His third attempt was for Daddy. Because clearly he wasn't getting what he wanted from me.
After all of that, he finally went to sleep and I was out of him room by 9:07. From start to finish, an hour and 22 minutes.
Now for the fun part .... because you didn't think it ended there, did you?
Bub woke up 3 times. THREE TIMES. He hasn't done that in ... I can't even remember the last time he woke up that many times in one night. It wasn't anything traumatic and he wasn't awake for very long, but we did have to go into his room each time and rock him back to sleep.
Fin was asleep by 8:40 and slept through the night, but woke up for the day at 5:10. Let's just say, I haven't been up that early since before they were walking!
As with most things when it comes to parenting, it's nearly impossible to get it right the first time.
